David James Roufs, age 72, of Elko-New Market, Minnesota passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Lakewood Reflections in Staples, Minnesota.
He was born on January 11, 1947 in Minneapolis the son of Herbert H. & Helen M (Kleber) Roufs.
He graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Winsted in 1965. In 1969, David graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Education.
David honorably served his Country in The United States Air Force for four years. He was a Viet Nam Veteran.
On July 26, 1969, David J. Roufs and Susan M. Painschab were joined in holy marriage at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly. God blessed their marriage with six children.
David valued a hard day’s work and took much pride giving his best. A value he instilled in all of his children. He spent 21 years in education. He ended his career giving all of his handyman advice working for Menards.
He belonged to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly and formerly sang in the church choir at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Arlington. He
was also a member of The American Legion and Knights of Columbus.
David enjoyed singing, music, camping, woodworking and gardening.
Survived by his loving wife: Susan M. Roufs; children: Eric Roufs and fiancé Kimberly Taylor, Jarrod (Rae) Roufs, Tara (Troy) Breyer, Jessica (Marcus) Kohman and Dominic (Alicia) Roufs; eleven grandchildren: Selena & Connor; Ava, Liam, Grayson & Addison; Gillian & Braden; Brody & Natalie; and Herbert; brothers: Donald (Sue) Roufs, Richard (Myra) Roufs and Dennis (Patty) Roufs; many other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by a daughter Natalie Roufs in 2009, his parents and by his father-in-law & mother-in-law Arnold & Mary Painschab.
A Mass of Christian Burial for David Roufs will be held on Monday, February 4th, 2019 at 11:00 A,M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly. Father Kenneth O’Hotto will be the Celebrant.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 3rd from 4-7 P.M. AT THE CHURCH. A Prayer service will be held at 6:30 P.M. Further visitation will be held on Monday, February 4th from 9:30 till 10:45 A.M. at the church.
Casket Bearers will be Eric and Jarrod Roufs, Tara Breyer, Jessica Kohman, Dominic Roufs and Selena Roufs.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Alzheimer’s Research.
